SmartClean™ automatically keeps your contact list healthy and your sending reputation protected.
Email deliverability is directly tied to engagement. When contacts repeatedly receive emails and never open or click, inbox providers treat that behavior as a negative signal. Over time, this hurts inbox placement for your entire list, not just the inactive contacts.
SmartClean™ runs automatically on the 1st of every month and removes contacts that are actively damaging deliverability. This happens without manual review so your list stays clean by default.
A contact is deactivated only when all of the following conditions are met:
- No opens or clicks recorded, ever
- Has been sent at least 25 emails
- Was added to your account at least 3 months ago
This threshold is intentional. It ensures SmartClean™ only removes contacts that have had ample opportunity to engage and clearly are not responding.
Why this matters, especially with high sending frequency:
Sending too many emails to contacts who do not engage creates several problems:
- Inbox providers start flagging your domain as low quality when emails are consistently ignored
- Inbox placement drops across the board, including for your most engaged subscribers
- Even strong campaigns become less effective because emails stop reaching the inbox
- List fatigue increases, leading to higher unsubscribe rates and brand irritation
If you choose to increase sending frequency, SmartClean™ becomes even more important. It acts as a safeguard to make sure volume does not come at the expense of deliverability.
